The Camelback Sofa inherits its form from a Georgian sofa (circa 1760) that Max bought in 2001 at the Christie’s sale of the Humphrey Whitbread Collection; it having a cupid’s bow of a camelback, and sitting slightly lower and larger than was typical of the period.
The original had a full arm, running from front to back, but a sloping cutaway works to open up the form somewhat. Either way, it’s a frame that can carry embellishment, be that with a trim or hand-hammered studding.
Handmade traditionally constructed beech frame with show wood legs polished to match the original antique: the single seat pad has a latex core with feather wrap, giving comfort whilst retaining the clean lines of the original.
