The tallest table lamp in our range, our Column Lamp works wonderfully alone or in a pair to make a statement. The design is inspired by an antique original made circa 1890 in ebony. High demand for this valuable hardwood drives illegal logging and overexploitation in tropical forests today, causing great biodiversity loss, so our Column Lamps are made in sustainable tulipwood and beech.

The subtle entasis on the tapering column is carefully incorporated as the bases are hand turned on the lathe, the stepped bases add weight and stability. Ebonising was a very popular finish when the original lamp was manufactured; despite there being faster, modern solutions to create a similar effect, we still use the same technique and materials as would have been used during the late Victorian period.

Porphyry

Inspired by the popularity of rare and expensive tropical woods and exotic marbles, it was in the mid-Georgian to Victorian period that faux painted finishes reached the height of fashion, with fine examples being shown at the Great Exhibitions of London in 1851 and Paris in 1855. The architectural form of our Column Lamp lends itself perfectly to this type of painted decoration. Our porphyry finish was developed between Max and one of our artists, who individually hand paints the Column Lamps in his West Sussex studio.
