The Devonshire Bed was born out of Lot 233 from the 2010 Sotheby’s sale, ‘Chatsworth: The Attic’: “A massive George III carved mahogany bed post, circa 1770”. Having placed the winning bid for this single, 10-foot tall bed post, Max admits it was as much a souvenir as it was potential inspiration. Scaled down considerably, though, and its turned vase stem supporting a stop-fluted column is reimagined in the front posts of the Devonshire Bed.
A traditionally upholstered headboard comes as standard, however, Max and the team collaborated with Schumacher to create the fully dressed Devonshire Bed depicted in the first two images. Full details of the fabrics chosen can be found in the ‘Bed Dressings’ tab below.
