Max Rollitt

Hampshire Vicarage

The project that kick-started Max’s career as a dealer-decorator, this sizeable vicarage had tempted its owners from a relatively small rented cottage, so it would need furniture, objects and artworks to make it feel like a home. Knowing of Max and his shop, then in Winchester, the client called in to enquire about a sofa and left having hired Max as interior decorator. The house had plenty of period charm with large reception rooms and Georgian sash windows, so it was a matter of ornamenting further what was already there. That which couldn’t be sourced was designed and made in-house, including the large dining table, which used nineteenth-century timber. It’s the little details, such as an interesting collection of shells and birds’ eggs, that make the house feel lived-in and loved, not simply styled.
