A George I oak bureau bookcase, the top surmounted with three urn-shaped finials above twin-arched raised and fielded panelled doors, enclosing an arrangement of shelves and pigeon holes. The fall encloses a writing surface, four drawers and eight pigeon holes. Wonderful patination. The Gothic brass handles date from around 1760 – probably an attempt to modernise the piece for that period. The Broganza feet are period (they actually pre-date the piece), and are a charming later addition.
