George III Mahogany Linen Press, circa 1815

This magnificent George III mahogany and plum pudding mahogany linen press has ebony and boxwood line-and-spot inlay throughout. Having a stepped and reeded cornice, the panel doors enclose six trays and three drawers, and are flanked by inlaid pilasters. The lower part – fitted with drawers with brass lion mask handles – standing on square, tapering, fluted feet. This form of decoration is typical of the Scottish cabinet makers of this period.
