George III Mahogany Secretaire Bookcase, circa 1790

A late-18th-century mahogany secretaire bookcase with a dentil-and-cell cornice above a pair of astragal glazed doors with carved floral rosettes, enclosing adjustable shelves. The mahogany fall front opening to an arrangement of satinwood and mahogany drawers, pigeonholes and hidden compartments. The baize-lined writing surface, above two long graduated drawers with original brass handles, raised on bracket splayed feet.
