Scottish Regency Rosewood Library Chair, circa 1820

An early-nineteenth century rosewood library chair; the tapered top rail and turned finials above a spindle back. The elongated arms, set on reeded supports, above an upholstered seat, raised on reeded baluster legs with brass caps and castors. Now upholstered in a striped silk.

Note: The overall shape of this chair, especially the very deep seat and elongated arm rests, are reminiscent of a set of three laburnum easy chairs in the collection of the Gladstone family at Fasque House. The related dining chairs were sold by Christie's in May 2008, but the easy chairs were retained in the family collection.
