The Campaign Bed is based on an original design by Thomas Butler, one of the foremost specialist makers of campaign furniture.
This portable furniture became popular among military officers and travellers in the 18th and 19th centuries, designed to be dismantled and packed for travel, and made from durable timbers suited to changing climates.
Our Bespoke version reinterprets this ingenious furniture for a rather more settled, domestic life. Solid American black walnut forms the posts, with tulipwood side rails and solid walnut facings, while the headboard is traditionally upholstered.
The brass cornice, lightly adapted from the original design, can be left exposed or upholstered, creating an elegant, enclosed space.
